Behind the digital wave were left thousands of recordings on vinyl records, cassette tape, reel-to-reel, and more. Unfortunatley, those analog formats are deteriorating with age and every play. In addition, with the introduction of the DVD and now Blue Ray for video, thousands of great home movies and priceless family archives are "trapped" on old VHS tapes ... aging rapidly and heading to certain waste.

Tape damaged? Unfortunately, many VCR or Cassette tapes have already been damaged - broken cases, broken tape, etc. For irreplaceable material, in many cases we can repair the tapes at least long enough to get them transferred and preserved. A Note on Copyright!
With regard to transfer/copying of commercial music or video, US Copyright law allows you to copy commercial VHS tapes to DVD and Vinyl or tape audio recordings to CD as long as it is for personal use and not sold, given away, otherwise distributed, etc.

Copying of commercial CDs or DVDs is prohibited. Therfore, Sound Works follows the following rules when transferring tape to digital:

We will make SINGLE copies/transfers of commercial audio/video tapes to CD/DVD and will make one additional "back-up" copy if desired. We will not make any more copies unless you are the copyright holder or otherwise have specific written permission.
We will not duplicate commercial CDs or DVDs unless you are the copyright holder or otherwise have specific written permission.
